September eNews Letter from Elisabeth Leseur’s Circle of Friends

Greetings from Pittsburgh, PA! As summer comes to an end in the United States, we used the last long holiday weekend to prepare our September eNews.

Elisabeth in Current Periodicals

Earlier this summer, based on the advice of an EL Circle Friend we wrote to two Catholic periodicals in the United States, to inquire about how often Elisabeth Leseur’s writings have appeared in them. These periodicals, Give Us This Day (this periodical does not appear to be available outside the United States at this time) and Magnificat (which is also available in French and other languages) contain the daily mass readings, the order of the Mass and reflections. We recently received a letter from the Magnificat’s editor indicating that passages from Elisabeth’s journal, translated by Janet Ruffing, (“Elisabeth Leseur: Selected Writings”) have appeared 156 times in the last 10 years!

Give Us This Day, is a newer periodical in the United States, and in the last four years, parts of Elisabeth’s journal translated by Janet Ruffing have appeared 10 times! The inspiring story of Elisabeth has also appeared in the “Blessed Among Us” feature of Give Us This Day three times in the last five years. (in 2012, 2014 and 2017). In addition, the publisher, Liturgical Press, recently published a hard cover book entitled Blessed Among Us: Day by Day with Saintly Witnesses. Elisabeth is featured on page 255 of this book.

We wonder if anyone might have access to an archive of the Magnificat to help us capture the content for the times Elisabeth’s writing has appeared? Based on our initial research, we have not had much success locating either older paper copies or digital copies of the Magnificat. If you have any ideas, please email us.

New Content – September Reflection

With all the challenges we face in this life, particularly as we begin a new school year in the United States, we chose a reflection from Elisabeth’s journal that recognizes the strength we may draw upon from God in our spiritual lives. The September reflection is available at the following link.

Actions for the Cause

If at all possible, we are asking that you consider having a mass offered at your local parish for Elisabeth on (or around) her birthday: October 16. We are aware of several masses in the United States (Oregon, Florida, Pennsylvania), one in Canada, one in France, and arrangements are being made in Argentina. Please let us know if you are able to arrange a mass as we will publish a complete list in our October eNews.

Prayer Requests

We had a few prayer requests from our Circle of Friends. We ask that you please keep these requests in mind in your prayers. Feel free to send us any requests that you would like to add.

  • Cheryl S  – United States
  • A young man and his Mother in Brazil who are battling multiple health issues
  • A family of Elisabeth supporters in Brazil

We are most grateful for everyone’s support. We know we are just a small link in the Circle of Friends. Please help us grow the circle by sharing
